I voted "nothing", though I could have voted "don't know and don't care"-- only because I went through Y2K in a HUGE, huge way. 'Nuff said. I think, anyway.

So, I do still have survivalist/apocalypse/TEOTWAWKI tendencies, but this time 'round, show me the X and I will take my son and stand on it, and let the chips (or bombs, as it were) fall where they may.

My hugest lesson from then? Be prepared, to a degree, but enjoy life now.

I don't buy into the 2012 thing, but I do think that society as it is now will be changing a lot in the near future. The way people in first world countries live isn't sustainable and I think we're at the very peak of greed and luxury right now. How long it will stay that way I don't know but I can't see that it can last much longer.
I also believe we are headed for a big depression and are putting our blinders on in order to not see that.
Also just by the volume of people believing that the end is near through whatever religion or belief system they follow, how will that affect their decisions whether they're politicians or the average person, and in turn how will that affect society?
.....then there's the feeling that I've had since I was a kid that I'd live to see some huge disaster as an adult....so maybe there is something big looming on the horizon, I just don't think there is something magical about that particular year.

i'll be debt free come 2012....nothing bad better happen dang it.

Interesting poll! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes thinks about this!

I have also felt this way since a very young age. I wonder how many other people have tuned into that feeling?

I agree with Maiasaura, though, you have to live and love now and not live in fear.

I voted nothing will happen.

I'll be 46 in 2012, that's all the drama I can take.

I dont for a minute think it will be the end of the world since the Bible says no man knows when that will be. I do think that within my life time California is going to have a major quake that will destroy it. I have thought that all my life and as each year passes the feeling gets stronger. You couldnt pay me enough to visit Cali.

Nothing. I believed that in the 80s we would have a nuclear holocaust that would wipe out most of the world and that didn't happen. The world was supposed to end Dec. 31, 1999 (Y2K). Nothing happened, and nothing will happen in 2012.

I don't think anything will happen either in 2012. Look at the what happened with Y2K(!?!) and that turned out to be a bust.
Although I do agree with Wednesday2004 that we are at (or must be near) the end of this crazy consumerism that all first world countries are living in. Something has GOT to change

Just wanted to make a note here:

The 2012 thing is based on the Myan calendar. Or at least one aspect of it is. Actually, the Myans never said 2012 was the end of the world. It just happens to be when their calendar abruptly stops. This could mean several things, such as the circle has been completed and we are just going in the cycle again. Their calendar is based on cosmic events and such so its possible that they just didn't have write anything after that because it was simply going back to the beginning. Of course it could be something else entirely. But all-in-all, their calendar just abruptly stops. It never says anything about the end of the world.

I dont know. I watched something, was flipping actually and came across that nostrodamas documentary about the mayan calendar. I personally dont think the mayan calendar has anything to do with God's timeline actually. Interestingly tho, that doc said something about how time has 'speeded up' in this last century. That something like double (or something) the amount of technological advances happened in the last 100 years when compared to the last 2 millenia. I dont know if thats statistically accurate, but it does seem like something like that is occurring and I kind of think 'How long can we go on like this?' I do believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ. Part of me wishes it would occur in my lifetime, the realistic part of me knows better then to speculate any such thing. I do think that among christians tho, that there is a hightened expectation. In fact, as I watch how popular culture goes, it seems like a lot of people are expecting 'something' big to occur. It does feel like some kind of spiritual awakening. As a christian, I do want to keep watch for the 'signs and times'. I dont know that anything big will happen in 2012 tho. I do feel 'something' is imminent.

But why California exactly?

Huh, never really even heard about the 2012 thing. As far as I'm concerned, the only significance 2012 has is that it's the next year after this one that there will be a blue moon - and that's fairly minor to me right now. I do have to say though about the Y2K thing, if many programmers and IT people hadn't totally busted ass in a few sectors it wouldn't have been the non-event that it was. That had nothing to do with prophecy but rather poor planning in programming and hard work to clean it up!

Right, Sunshine, but I'm not sure it's the source of the problem that matters-- only the result. So whether it's Mayans stopping a calendar (for whatever reason-- like a PP said, Bible or no, we can't possibly speculate) or IT people messing up, the result could be the same-- TEOTWAWKI. And what humans would have to do is prepare for a totally different world.

That said-- is that veering off topic?

i don't think anything's going to happen. however, DH teases me all the time that it will be the apocolypse b/c we'll be entering the "terrible twos" with DS at that time.

Almost verbatim, that.

Maybe I'd rephrase the "love to see some huge disaster"... I don't really want to except I really think the human race needs a major wakeup call. So I don't want it but I think we need it. The thing that concerns me, though, is that the disaster will probably affect mostly the people who didn't cause it, and not so much the people who really did cause it.

I don't think anything will happen. Perhaps there might be some natural disasters and calamities that would have occurred anyway that people may blame on the "2012" prophecy..but I don't think it's going to be a major global catastrophe.

I dont think that anything will happen. I dont buy into the whole 2012 thing anymore than I did the Y2K. I mean if the whole 2012 thing held water would they have put it out there sooner than the last year or so? I have watched some of the stuff on the history channel about it and Nostradomus (sp) and I just dont believe it.
