does HIB vax mean more likely to need prevnar

i think we are going to vax for hib-but don't want to do prevnar - does giving hib vaccine make a baby more vulnerable for Pneumococcal?

I don't see why it would; you are dealing with two different kinds of bacteria and I see no evidence that one fills the niche of the other. You may be thinking of how prevnar has been shown to make you more vulnerable to certain drug resistant pneumococcal strains-- causing lots of drug resistant ear infections.

Fill the niche? No. Manipulate or alter microflora? Most definitely.

I recall that Hilary Butler has a chapter on this in her second book, complete with the references/citations. I'd quote an excerpt for you except all my books are in a container and being shipped right now. Perhaps others can cite it here.

From what I remember, there was a quotation from a pediatric journal where an infectious disease specialist attributed the increase in pneumo cases to universal Hib vaccination. Likewise, increase in Hib vaccination was theorized to lead to an increase in staph cases.
