My 4 year old really benefits from a nightly shower. It helps relax him, esp if he's been tantrumy. So shower, jammies, teeth, story and bed is how we do it at night. The shower makes the process go so much smoother.

I remember when DS1 was little somtimes giving him a bath with me was the only way to calm him down when he wouldn't stop screaming.

My 7 month old gets bathed or showered at least twice a week, often more. Not because we're clean freaks, but being my kid she LOVES the warm water, loves "swimming" and occasionally (often when she was younger) it's the only thing that will calm her down.

My 4.5 month old son gets a bath every morning. I do not submerse him, really, but I put him in his empty tub on the bathroom counter and I use a cup to pour tepid water over him to rinse him off. I use a tiny bit of Aveeno wash on him then rinse immediately. I pay close attention to his hands and diaper area, as well as his many folds, because let's face it, at 21 pounds he has MANY.

I figure he has his hands in his mouth all day long, his face gets covered with drool/breastmilk, and his diaper area gets covered with excrement. I don't think there's any way that a simple wet wipe really does the job thoroughly ten times a day.

That said, my son has never had a patch of dry skin. I suppose I would be willing to live with a bit more baby grime if his skin was getting dry.

ds1 was once a week until he started crawling and then only twice a week unless he got into something messy ds2 takes baths with me and ds1 so its about 2x per week.

My little kids bathe/shower every night. It's part of our nightly routine and I believe it signals bedtime is coming for them soon. Plus they manage to get really dirty during the day.

I don't do the bath before bedtime here. My DD will not sleep as well if she has a bath too close to bedtime. I give her baths either in the mornings or early afternoons. I will do every other day and sometimes just water, no baby wash just to keep her skin from drying out. The only time I do every day is if she has had a messy diaper day or something.

My son is 4.5 months and I bathe him once *maybe* twice a week. I just feel like it's not that necessary.
