Sorry you are going through this. There was a mum in the LLL group I go to who was going through a custody battle, the leader even testified in court for her, but there was really little sympathy for breastfeeding and not taking a bottle. They generally seem to accept no overnight visits before 1 year, but after that, if the father is demanding them, the breastfeeding arguement seems to not carry any wait.

Have you actually tried a longer time? We've found that even though DD has taken a bottle, that if DH takes her out on the weekend, he sometimes takes all three kids for an afternoon activity to give me a break, that even though he takes a bottle with him, that she doesn't end up eating it, whereas if she is with me she would feed much more frequently.

So I would say give it a try, send a bottle and see what happens, he's not going to come to any harm if when you try it doesn't work out. You might also suggest he try offering the bottle sooner rather than later, so he's not desperate for food and might be more willing to try another method.

At this age, for what length of time do you leave your little one? We're in the middle of a custody battle and Z is breastfed, however, for 2-hr visits with stbx I have to provide at least one bottle. To my knowledge, Z is still fighting and not really accepting the bottle. When I carry/wear him during the day, he can go as long as 3 hrs between feedings but I don't know what a reasonable length of time to leave him is. The Custody Evaluator really wants me to start leaving Z with his father for much longer periods of time (2 hrs is the longest so far). What do you think? Are there good arguments (besides him not really taking the bottle) for not being separated from me for a longer period of time?
I guess I'm in the minority, but I leave DS (we call him Z as well ) at least 4 days a week w/ the mr. for around 8 hours - I usually miss 4 feedings. I went back to work at 12 weeks. We worked on him taking a bottle starting at 6 weeks and it took a few times but was fine. He won't drink as much from it - (he should have at least 10oz I think while I'm gone, but its a good day if he has 8oz. We also will leave him with my MIL for around 3 hours (she also feeds him a bottle) but haven't done longer than that, and might not for a few more months.

Hi June Mamas, I posted this in Family Bed MDC forum too but haven't had a reply so thought I'd try you.

My Ds is 5 months. He co-sleeps with us and always sleeps b/t Dh and Me, but nestled up to me so he can quickly get some food w/o too much fuss (or noise).

I've noticed since he was born that sometimes when he's sleeping he stops breathing for a few seconds, then resumes without a gasp, just chest rises. Is this normal? When he was sick a few months ago with a cold I told the pedi about this and doc listened with stethoscope and said all sounded normal, but I'm still wondering if this breathing is normal for 5 months.

Anyone else notice eratic breathing in their babe?

I have not noticed it in my 5 month old, but that does sound a lot like how my 12yo was before she got her adenoids and tonsils taken out. She used to stop breathing while she slept, except sometimes she would gasp for air and she never woke up through any of this. We were told she had large adenoids and that she would eventually outgrow the stop breathing episodes. She never did until she had the surgery. I'm not saying that's what is wrong with your baby but it is similar to what I went through with my oldest.

Hi mamas! Little update: our LO started crawling a little over a week ago at 5mos, 2 weeks. 2 days later he was sitting unassisted. It is a little more work to keep after him now, for sure.

Hope to hear from some other June mamas!

awwww! I'm NOT ready for this stage. My Ds is 5 mos 2 wks and pushing up. Dh holds him up and then Ds pushes off his back legs, and tries to do a froggy leap. It's so funny!

Has anyone noticed how much their babe's moods vary from day-to-day? Some days my baby is soooooo happy laughing and reacting to everything, then others he seems to just be watching and taking everything in, aborbing.

Another question for you Mamas ... with holidays around the corner, toys are your LOs into? I'm trying to get ideas for Christmas and all our family who keep asking me what he needs. (We hardly have any toys for him yet, so I'd love to know any ideas that he could grow with.)

Hi June Mamas. Happy New Year! Been a while since we chatted... how is everyone? What are your bubs up to lately? DS is doing great. Getting bigger and more opinionated every day. He's clapping and sayind Daddddeeeee a lot, some mummummm but prefers the D sound. (I try not to take it personally. LOL!) Seems like he gets bored much more quickly now, and still wants to be on me all the time. I mostly AP but I'd love to have a few mins to cook a meal or even go to the bathroom w/o him on me.

How much sleep is your baby getting each day? I think DS has about 15 hours or so.

Just wanted to check in with yall!

Hi mamas! I'm new here, joining a little late, better late than never! c was born june 5th (almost 2 wks 'late'). I haven't read all the posts... But about the leaving your baby thing... I go in 2-3 days a week, part time. I've been doing that since September. Just recently ds stopped taking a bottle while I'm gone. He's either with dh or my mom, and he just refuses! With me he eats every 3-4 hrs, but he's gone as long as 6 while I'm gone! It's not often I'm gone that long, but he's done it a few times! He does 'make up' for it later, but I think he is ok, he's def not starving! (he's 29" and 23 lbs)!
Anyway... Hey ladies, I'm happy to have found you gotta go now and eat while I have a chance, dh just brought me dinner

DS gets about 12 hours of sleep a day if we are lucky. He's still tough at night and for naps. He sometimes takes a long morning nap now, but often his naps are the 'standard' length we call it - 40/45min.

I'm shocked he isn't more tired, since for the past month he's been pulling up and cruising (started at 6 months, a bit to our surprise) He's been crawling since about 5 months, though didn't get good at the cross-crawling until almost 6 months as well.

He's SO active its tiring just to watch him. We still need to bounce him a lot for naps, but at around 5 months is when finally I could start nursing him to sleep every now and then (often at bedtime!) We started a bedtime routine and the bouncing then has been less needed. I know it sucks to be happy that I'm nursing to sleep, but it beats bouncing

he just had a growth spurt AND his top two teeth came through so the last few weeks have been tough sleep-wise (up every 2 hours at least, and sometimes every 1) but the last 4-5 days back to 3 hour stretches, w/ a four hour one every now and then (doable for me!)

we haven't started solids yet and am kind of nervous about it, not sure why.
