Hi from rural Pennsylvania!

Hi!

I'm momma of an amazing Sweet Pea and wife to his amazing Daddy.

I'm so glad to find this forum, because I live in an area where my parenting style is very different from the norm.

In addition, my baby was born at 28 weeks due to my developing severe preeclampsia - he is now healthy and happy, but we've got some emotional healing to do. We were planning on having a home birth, and I still - a year later! - acutely mourn its loss.

It can feel very isolated here, so I'm excited to get to talk to other mommas who have been through the same type of thing, and whose babies are also called spoiled because they are worn rather than put into shopping carts.

So, I'm really glad to be here!

Hi and welcome!

I'm in rural PA too... poconos in my case. PA is very big and very rural though, isn't it?

there is a nice birth healing forum here. Perhaps connecting with others who have experienced similar will help?

Thanks so much for the welcomes!!

I've been checking out the birth healing and the NICU parenting forums. I think that they'll be really helpful in processing and helping me to feel slightly less like a freak. My good friends in the area have all had beautiful homebirths, uncomplicated pregnancies, and it's hard to feel so alone. The women who I became acquaintances with at the NICU largely had nothing in common with me, other than a preemie - and while a preemie is a huge thing to have in common, it'd be nice to share a bit more about birth, parenting and breastfeeding philosophies.

Yes, Pennsylvania is pretty big and surprisingly rural. We are in McKean County - literally two minutes from the New York border. At home, we're surrounded by trucks that say "Git-R-Done." No offense meant to anyone who's a fan of Larry the Cable Guy, of course...but I am not It's also rough because DH and I are theatre people - he's a director, I'm an actor - and my specialty academically has been evolutionary biology. Now we live in a place with no theaters in sight (except for the one at the university where my husband works), and where people "don't believe in evolution." Sigh. It's nice, though, to have lovely woods all around - great places for walks. It's so important to me that Sweet Pea get as much time in nature as possible!

We are in PA also. Visitors are shocked when we tell them about the "Dover School Board" going to court to try to teach creationism.

There ARE liberal baby-wearing Moms in PA ... just have to find them on the net!

Welcome!
