Addams family for preschoolers?

Hello, during October we love to watch "spooky" movies-- but I'm not going to let my kids watch Jason or Halloween anytime soon!

We've done Pooh's Hephalump Halloween and Hocus Pocus....but I'd like other movies. My kids are 3 and 5 and I rented The Addams Family from the library... but I'm not sure it is appropriate for kids that age. I haven't seen it in a very long time.

What do you think?

My husband watches this movie year round, but I think it would not be appropriate for preschoolers. There is a lot of blood, torture, and sexual innuendos through the entire movie. The children are praised and encouraged to be rude and morbid and are shown to be "playing" by electrocuting, poisoning, or trying to shoot their siblings.

I love the Addams Family, but three- and five-year-olds are probably a little young to get the joke.

Here are some "safer" Halloween movies for little kids (I love Halloween, so I've put a lot of thought into this over the years!)

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Mad Monster Party
Kiki's Delivery Service (Not raelly a Halloween movie, but she IS a witch so it sort of fits)
The old Casper and Wendy cartoons -- these are available on compilation DVDs
Scooby Doo, of course! Not the live-action movies, though, those aren't really made for little kids.
Monsters, Inc.
The Worst Witch
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
I would recommend The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, but they play some of the haunted house moments surprisingly straight and I think it might be a little scary for kids the age of yours!
Depending on the kids, Nightmare Before Christmas will either delight or terrify them. My daughter loved it.

And the classic musical Meet Me in Saint Louis is appropriate for the whole family and it has the best trick-or-treat scene ever put on film!

We are soooooo excited that this is coming back to theatres in 3D!!!!

Um, we've seen The Addams Family. I've got a just-turned-5-yo who is in love with anything Halloween-ish.

Def. depends on the child. I think mine is going to grow up to be like Wednesday....or was her name Tuesday? I know it was a day of the week. LOL!!

My daughter has seen the original Chas Addams drawings -- we have a couple of the books -- and she does like those!

Everyone says that my oldest dd (seven and a half) reminds them of Wednesday Addams. A friend even sent me a picture of dd1 as evidence. Dd1 was waiting for her sister's dance class to end and hers to start so she was wearing a black leotard, sitting in a corner with a deadpan expression, reading The Graveyard Book. Guess she should at least read the books...
