Amelia is home!
After 17 long days in the NICU, Amelia is home with her family. We are getting settled in and Amelia is sleeping in her cradle. She did well on her ride home and we are so happy that we have made it to this point in our lives. We finally feel complete after 3 + years of trying for a new one to love and losing our precious Zoe. I'm a new mom again and my rainbow baby is home!
UPDATE: we got a ped's appt for friday to repeat the testing on the alk-phos (low vit d...risk factor for osteopenia aka rickets or brittle bone). she had one of her metabolic screens come back elevated, so they repeated that and we will know more thursday. she has to have repeat testing on them every 1 to 2 weeks until the levels are normal. if the metabolic (steroid) test is still abnormal, we will see an endocrinologist (SP?).
the neonatalogist seems to think that the knot in the cord caused blood flow interuption and even blood back up into her liver. we are now also going to have to do more tests to make sure her liver is functioning properly and that there was no damage done by the reverse flow of blood. they are unsure of how long or how much blood flow reversal occurred but it was enough that her mineral and hormone absorption were interrupted significantly enough to show up on the screening. usually, high alk-phos levels aren't seen until the baby is 6-12 wks and usually only in babies who are pre-term or are being breastfed by undernourished mothers.
