Cod Liver Oil reaction?

Has anyone had an infant react to cod liver oil? My 10 month old son has a perpetual face and body rash, so it's nearly impossible to tell when he's reacting to something. I was curious if it was something he could even react to....

Thanks,
Emily

I'm using Carlson's.

OMG, I was just coming here to post this exact same question! How weird is that!

I've been taking Carlson's fish oil capsules since before the start of the pregnancy. I'm now BF and dd is about 12 weeks old. I've eliminated dairy and soy. Today I took my fish oil in the morning, instead of last night like usual, and starting late morning it's all diahrrea and mucus. But her first morning poop, which was before I had the fish oil, was more normal - actually seedy and much thicker than it's been for weeks. Hmmm...

(but I also put egg white protein powder into my oatmeal this morning... could be egg too - boo hoo)

I'm going to skip fish oil for a week and see what happens. If it turns out to be the culprit (keep your fingers crossed! I really miss milk. I'm not holding my breath though), I'll want to switch to another omega product. Is there anything made of, say, flax or something, that comes close to the potency of fish oil?

FWIW, I think Carlson's is an excellent brand, so I think that if there's a problem with Carlson's, then all fish oils are out.

When I was pregnant, I was taking fish oil. I always had this itchy red rash all over my belly that drove me crazy. When I ran out of fish oil and didn't buy more right away, the rash went away and never came back. I don't know that this is related, but might be an interesting side note.

I know dairy and egg are very common allergens for infants. My son was allergic too (along with everything else, but dairy and egg were two of his biggest along with nuts and garlic)...I'd definitely eliminate eggs along with the soy and dairy for a week. It's sad, but it might make the difference....

Might want to consider the wheat in your diet too. It took us awhile to figure it out, but it was the wheat I was consuming daily that was causing DS's bloody, mucousy stools and fussiness.

When I was nursing my DD, I could not take fish oils. She is highly allergic to shellfish and there must have been some level of contamination. I don't think I tried Carlson's though, so don't know what they say about shellfish.

I don't know about Carlsons but my DD reacted to the cod liver oil I was taking. It wasn't until the 2nd or 3rd call to the company before they finally admitted there was hidden soy in it (which she is extremely sensitive to).

Which company was it? I take a high vitamin CLO and I think my dd is allergic or sensitive to soy.

Most CLOs have soy in them. And fish is one of the top 8 allergens... And let me repeat: ANY food can cause ANY symptom.
