reddness at tip in intact 3mo old

Hi!

New mom to an intact 3mo old boy. He has a bit of reddness at the tip of his penis. It seems to have gotten a little worse during today. He has been fussy all day & tonight it seems he gets upset when he pees. although, he has wet & not been upset, so maybe it is not related.

I wonder if its because we changed his diapers? We went from swaddlers to a cheaper brand... could using cloth be better in this regard?

we've bought the swaddlers, so he's back in the diapers that seem to be ok... can i put desatin or A & D on his penis, or is that bad?

any other suggestions? is this normal? could it be separation?

Sounds like a bit of diaper rash so yes you can put your choice of diaper cream on there. The tip often gets red like that so it usually isnt a big deal at all just protect it with the cream so that it can heal.

I got that with one of my DS's for awhile. I asked about it here and they said it was a little diaper irritation and to put a little barrier cream on it. I did and it cleared up completely. Now I just put a dab on when either of them gets a little red and it clears right up.

It does sound maybe like a diaper irritation to me. While separation can happen at any time, 3 months may be a bit early. If he's urinating regularly and doesn't have a fever I wouldn't worry too much about it and just keep an eye on it.
You could also try some applying some breast milk on it if you are nursing. While I never had to try it personally, I've read from mom's who have done it that it works beautifully! You could even alternate between breast milk and some diaper rash ointment if you wanted. You could also try giving him some naked time to air out if possible.

Just wanted to make sure since I didnt ask before but there is no way anyone has retracted him is there? I figure not since you didnt mention it as a possibility but wanted to make sure

My daughters used to get their tip of their genitals red too. It's normal and a natural reaction to soiled diapers, the skin is doing its job. Just make sure you soak him in baking soda baths. it's soothing.

The redness is the body dealing with some nappy (thats what we call diapers in Oz) rash. Nothing to worry about.
