ECing a boy

I was thinking of getting a crib sized flannel wet pad for the floor, because the whole house, besides bathroom and the small kitchen floor, is carpet. However, DS can shoot his pee just about anywhere and everywhere (as I'm sure you other moms already know). If I put a light cloth diaper over him, just so it doesn't go everywhere, will that still work? I got a bunch of really thin cloth prefolds from my grandma and I thought it'd help for me to see when he was peeing (due to their being thin). Do you think he'd pee through them because they're so thin? lol Thanks!

That seems like a good idea to keep pee from shooting off the blanket! The pee might soak through, or it might not (helpful, aren't I!) but either way it should be ok if you have him on the blanket.

p.s. Prefolds are really good at soaking pee up from carpet, too, I have discovered!

Yes, covering him with a prefold should work just fine.

I like to give baby lots of tummy time, so I often put him on his tummy on a blanket with a prefold under him, so that's an option, too. Most people don't give their kids enough tummy time these days, so I always do when I can! (That's the physical therapist side of me talking!)

I think our boys are the same age. Mine was born Aug. 10. You?

August 11! lol They're almost exactly the same age to the day. That's a great idea about the prefold under him, I didn't even think of that. I always forget to do tummy time because he only likes to be on the floor for so long, then he's either tired and wants to be rocked to sleep or just cranky and wants to be held.

It's been interesting trying to figure out his "pee schedule" though. I'd be sitting next to him, look down and he'd already peed. I finally caught it the 3rd time and made the psst sound, to help teach him cues. I haven't gotten him to pee for me though when I hold him over a bowl or the sink (I've tried a couple different things). I feel like I'm treading in to unknown waters blindly and it's so nice to have a forum of moms who have done this before and can help answer questions. =)
