Tucson--need a kombucha starter?
it's a bit of an acquired taste-- I think it's pretty yummy, though I do dilute it with a little iced tea or water. It's kind of fun to make because you put this crazy mushroom thing on a bowl of tea and let it sit and ferment, it's like a science experiment!!
Every time you make it the mommy fungus creates a baby fungus, so each batch gives you a new one to give away, use, store, or compost.
I once had a recipe for an "amish" bread/cake. You used a starter and it had pudding in the mix. I'm not a mainstream sweets kind of person, but this stuff was REALLY good. Unfortunately, if you didn't keep making it, the starter died. After so long I had to let it go but wish I could find a source again.
Sarah, is this something you would want if I started it. It's not totally healthy, but it's fun. Here's a link: http://www.grouprecipes.com/42619/am...and-bread.html
If I make this in the next few weeks does anyone in Tucson want some starter?
I saw Sarah tonight and told her about your request for Kambucha. She said it's been awhile since she's been on MDC and she doesn't have any more kambucha. However, she might know someone who has some. Maybe try sending her a pm.
I posted this awhile back. I also sent Sarah a message on facebook saying you're looking for starter.
Also, Vinnie, if I were you I'd go back and edit your post to remove your email and phone number. You don't know who is trolling around here. You could get a rash of crank calls and most certainly inundated with spam. If you want to contact an individual person you can click on their "name" then select send personal message.
And welcome to MDC. There are a number of folks from Tucson on here.
