I met with a certified aromatherapy nurse today to come up with a mixture that fits me. It was fun! The oils relaxed me already.

Anyone else trying this?

I have some mixes not sure if they will get used though. I do this everytime for labor and then the smells actually bug me, same with music.

I have a friend who used aromatherapy with her first and it worked really well for her

i will be using oils as well as a shampoo that reminds me of my honeymoon and a massage lotion we used when our dear friend gave birth. one important suggestion (i found on MDC) would be to put the oil on a bit of fabric and attach it to you with a pin, so that you don't need to wash it off if it starts to bother you.

SOunds fantastic though I probably won't get to do this!

thats interesting! I live in a very un natural friendly town so I have no idea how far I would have to go to find some to do this for me but its such a good idea!

I'll probably be using an oil diffuser if I am allowed. Otherwise, just the oils on a rag laying nearby for that reason. If they bother me, we can get rid of the rag. But I only just recently decided to add this to my labor.

I live in indy! I agree that its hard to find stuff like this around here! She is in the community hospital north pharmacy. Her name is Pam Conrad and she works in their wellness pharmacy. They have a lot of alternative med/therapies in their pharmacy(which is in the hospital)

Im about 2 hours south of Indy! Small world. Thankfully I am about 1 hour from Louisville Ky and its MUCH better for being natural friendly and I was thankful to be able to find a bradley instructor and doula there that was willing to let us take classes and come to our birth. But seriously, in the town I live in we have 1 health food store and thats it. Our hospital has no tubs at all, only showers and most of the time you can use them in labor and we have absolutely no CNMs in the hospital. We would have to go over an hour away to the hospital to find one with CNMs. So homebirth was our only choice and even then my midwife is a little over a hour away.

Hopefully more options will become available in the future. Its nice to hear that you found some good people to help with your homebirth.

!!!!! I'm too late! You've had your baby Congrats!

She made me a:
massage oil
of madarin, frankincense, and rose
spritzer of madarin, ylang nerdi, and rose and
lotion with lavender and chamomile

She said that clary sage is great to help with contractions but I can't use it since I had a c/s before, its too powerful??

They smell great, they do relax me. If nothing else I will smell good

I removed my "ticker" might have just assumed. I have lavendar massage oil, dunno if that will be too strongly scended for me. I think I have rose around here too that I can add to it. I'm more likely to use my Mama Mio tummy oil, that stuff smells DIVINE! I should go down to yankee candle and get some nice smelly stuff to burn in the labor room.
