DS is nine weeks old (ten on Thursday). Up until the past few days, he was eating about every 2 hours during the day and going for longer stretches at night, maybe 3-4 hours. He received his DTaP and rotavirus on Friday and it seems like since then his feeding has been off. He'll cry like he's hungry, but when I put him to my breast, he'll nurse for maybe 2 minutes and come off. I'm lucky if he'll nurse for 5 minutes. If I try to encourage him to nurse longer he'll fuss and start to cry. He used to nurse to sleep very reliably, but hasn't done that, either (come to think of it, that started last week before the shot). What concerns me about the short nursing is that he's going for 2-2.5 hours at a time without getting anything. Then at night he'll wake up every 90 minutes almost like clockwork and nurse just fine---no fussing or crying at the breast at all.
I pumped when I felt real engorgement, but am wondering if I need to pump more. But then I'm afraid to pump a lot and then have him decide he wants to nurse again.
If it helps, he was getting over the croup last week (he nursed absolutely fine during that, though), and so far his diaper output has been normal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
