Is it ok to wear my newborn in the Ergo without the insert?

I just tried it (froggy-legged) and he seems to fit ok. His head also seems to pretty well-supported. And he fell promptly asleep, so it must feel ok! The only slight issue I foresee is that his little feet are down a bit under the hipbelt; the weight of his body on his feet is kind of pushing them down so they're between the hipbelt and my abdomen. He is 4 weeks old, about 12 pounds.

Is there anything here I'm missing?

Does this mean I now have no excuse to splurge on a Babyhawk?
