What's on the birth cert. of your UC baby under "who delivered?"

I'm just curious, because last time they put my DP's name down as the person who delivered (even though he wasn't even in the room at the time). It wasn't asked ... just assumed. Is this pretty standard in other states as well?

i'll check dd's...i can't remember what it says

That info isn't on the actual birth certificate that we got, I don't think. They did ask when we filled out the form, though, and I put me

You fill that out yourself here, and it's only on the application not the certificate. Whoever caught, I'd think.

We were told who to put where (as it stands, DD2's says: Certifier: Father's name). They made it clear that it depended on who was in the room. For example, if it were DH and I only then he was the person whom delivered and I was the other person (not assistant but labeled on the worksheet). If there was ANYONE else in the room, even if they didn't do anything, they needed to be listed though I can't remember if it was in place of DH or in place of me. I do know there were a couple spots for both of us to be listed. Only the "certifier" is listed on her actual cert. though. I just looked.

i didn't even bother trying to explain or tell them that i was the only one in the room cause then i thought they would say there was no witness and would not let dh be my witness....i still haven't look at the bc yet but i don't think it listed dh or me at the one that delivered

I guess it does differ a lot by state ... wierd I thought a BC would be a pretty standard form, but evidently it's not. It just irks me a little that of course they would assume a woman couldn't deliver her own baby ... women being helpless when they're in labor and all.

I filled out my own, and there is no spot for who delivered, just a spot for attendant and it is left blank.

but along the lines of a woman not being able to deliver her own baby...I remember when we were telling DH's grandma about the birth...her first comment was "How did [DH] know how to do everything?" and I said "HE didn't do anything!" :

In the Utah State code, if there's no doctor or midwife, the father is put on the birth certificate:

"For live births that occur outside a birthing facility, the birth certificate shall be completed and filed by the physician, nurse, midwife, or other person primarily responsible for providing assistance to the mother at the birth. If there is no such person, either the presumed or declarant father shall complete and file the certificate. In his absence, the mother shall complete and file the certificate, and in the event of her death or disability, the owner or operator of the premises where the birth occurred shall do so."

I would say it varies state to state. My DH is listed as "Attendant: Other" on my DD's birth certificate. I love the "other" hahaha!

my dh is listed as the attendant or person who delivered here in NE. i had entered my own name, but apparently they didn't like that idea....too bad he was huddled in a corner trying not to pass out!

I am the 'certifyer' on all of mine. Some of them say mother, and some say my real name.

I filled out the paperwork and when I asked the lady at the stats office she said 'whoever caught the baby' .... so I put my husband because he caught him. I had planned to catch him but ended up on hands and knees and hubby caught. It does irritate me that he gets credit for "delivering" when all he did was reach out his hands and catch him as *I* pushed the baby out. Anyhow... that is neither here or there.

I'd just call and ask honestly. Dh was listed even though he did nothing...I caught her and everything. It wasn't a big deal to me...I think it's more of a CYA thing than them thinking a woman can't deliver herself.

You're probably right. I should just be thankful that they didn't give me any hassle, lol.

if you had a UC, then they were just assuming he caught the baby. It wouldn't occur to most medical people that a mom could catch her own baby, I think! In our case, my dh caught ours.

Hey haven't seen you around in a while!

DP's not the "getting his hands dirty" type of UC dad. We really haven't talked about what his participation level is going to be this time. He's really handy with a cell phone, however.

ours were in Thai, and my son's says "delivered by herself" and for the twins, theirs say, "delivered by himself". Whoever "himself" is LOL

(DS was not a UC but midwives have to be invisible here)

Oh and here the nationality of the parents are on the BC. For Twin A's BC, they put down father as American. Twin B? Bulgarian. What?!?

Talk about lost in translation LOL

Our son's BC actually has a space saying, "Name and title of person who delivered child if other than certifier" and they put DP's name there. If It's not on there I guess you could call the state health board, that's who did ours.
