i made diapers 2 years ago for ds and the elastic turned out great

...it was the first time i had ever sewn

now...i am trying to make rrps for dd and i can't sew the elastic right

i need so elastic tips!

i am topstitching and using 1/4" braided elastic...56%polyester

i have zigzag and 3 step zig zag

which should i use?

i will cut out some more, but i refuse to sew until i get some help

My regular elastic sewing went so badly, I got a spool of fold-over-elastic. (no need to turn the dipe inside out to sew.) One thing I found is that a washing is required to get the final appearance with elastic.

Good luck!

Honestly, I have issues with sewing elastic because my machine doesn't have variable length for the zip zag. So, I do the elastic in casings for everything. For the RRP, I sew it together, turn it inside out, and then T&T everything except the ends of where the elastic needs to be. Turn it back inside out, put the elastic in, and it's set.

I use the 3 step zig-zag. For me, it is easiest to sew the elastic to the seam allowance before trimming, turning and top stitching. I tack the elastic to one side, stretch as tight as I can and zig-zag on the longest stitch. Tack the other side and you are ready to go.

i think that is what i did b4 (3 step) but i only had a straight stitch machine at first and some how my elastic turned out great!
go figure

i made really cute longies yesturday...wish i had batteries in my camera!!

and i am trying out kimono booties with recycled wool

the booties i have to sew by hand...too thick for my machine...i spent half the night with a stitch ripper...lol

i wish that the manual that comes with your sewing machine would show you how and when to use each stich and how & when to adjust length etc....
