Favorite yogurt maker? Temperature adjustment?

I've made yogurt with cow's milk in my crockpot. It usually came out just fine, but the temperature would vary wildly and I couldn't control it. If I wasn't watching the temperature like a hawk for the entire 8 hours, I killed the bacteria, and then all my efforts were wasted.

Then we discovered a dairy allergy, so we switched to buying Silk plain yogurt in the large containers.

Now, woe is me, Meijer seems to no longer carry Silk plain yogurt. I've tried every Meijer in a 25 mile radius.

It looks like I'll have to try to figure out how to make soy yogurt. My first attempt met with failure. I've been told that I will have to experiment with temperatures. I'm tired of using coolers, heating pads, ovens, sleeping bags to make yogurt. I need better control.

So, those of you who have yogurt maker machine, ...

1. What is your favorite yogurt making machine and why?
2. Can you set whatever temperature and times you like?
3. Can you make a large batch instead of dinky individual servings?
4. If you've ever made soy or non-dairy yogurt, I'd appreciate any tips or recipes that you can offer.

Thank you very much in advance.

I have a Eurocuisine yogurt maker but I'm wondering if it's too hot lately. I make coconut milk yogurt, using GIProHealth yogurt starter (is labeled as dairy free because it has less than a certain amount of parts per million of dairy as defined by the FDA; my kids don't react to it, they're highly sensitive dairy intolerance kids, not IgE allergy). It makes 7 small glass containers. My recipe is on www.kathysrecipebox.com. It took a while for me to get it right.

I don't have a yogurt maker, buthave had 100% success calling my grocery store and asking them to stock items, especially items that they carry the other products in the line, so if they still carry Silk anything you have a good chance.

I just use a small cooler, rinse it with hot water and then put a couple of mason jars of hot water in there along with the jars of yogurt. I admit I haven't tried it with soy, but it's been foolproof. I have more a more detailed description on my blog, but I think it's no longer kosher to share a link? But it's on my profile as my home page.
