Rebozo question

Thread Starter
I've been reading up on rebozos & they sound cool - just the thing I'll want when DD #2 arrives in December. However, I've never seen one & had a few questions:
  • Are they basically just a short wrap? A ring sling w/o rings?
  • Are they stretchy?
  • Can I make one by just buying fabric & calling it a rebozo? (I'm not as interested in fringe/pattern as I am in price & availability - I haven't seen many for sale.)

Thanks!

Yes, a rebozo is a short wrap - I haven't ever heard of a stretchy one and I'm not sure you would want one because of support and comfort but if you want to make your own it'd probably be snuggly during those newborn days.

I believe the term rebozo actually refers to the length of 2.8m (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) and you can do a couple different carries with it - a rebozo carry (which is traditional in mexico and other parts of the world?) where it looks like a ring sling but tied with a slipknot instead of rings and can be used in the same carries as a ring sling. You can also do a rucksack carry with the ends tied under the bum (RUB). Check out TBW wrappers forum for more info on rebozos. I have 2 and love them. I am a ring sling lover but found that my rings started slipping after ds was over 20lbs

Yes, you can find some appropriate fabric and call it a rebozo. But some fabrics will be more comfy than others and I don't know enough about fabric to tell you what to look for.

I know Giselle used rebozos with her newborn, and really liked it . . .
