Someone help me get my heartrate back to normal now.
I visited a friend of mine who had just had a baby girl. Because I knew that she was having a baby girl I didn't give her any circ info during pregnancy.
So we were chatting about our kid's doctors and I said, "Yeah, I can't say enough good things about my doc. He doesn't give me flack about not vaxing, nor flack about my 3 year old nursing, and since I was having a boy this time, I'm glad that he knows not to retract the foreskin."
So that brought up a little bit about how easy foreskins are to care for
, and then the husband mentioned circ. I said, "Yeah we decided that that wasn't in our boy's best interest." and mentioned some other things as well. The wife said, "I've always been scared of caring for a little boy's circumcision."
I said, "Well, the good news is that you don't have to do it. It's completely unnecessary. Most men in the world aren't circ'ed and they're not walking around with constant problems. For me, really, it boiled down to why cause my little boy pain when it's an unnecessary procedure. We have never had any problems caring for him. It's easy: just leave it alone. It may not retract until the teenage years."
By then, we were getting onto another subject but I could see that the wheels turned in their head and I'm so glad that I was able to plant a seed when they didn't have a "dog in the fight" so to speak. Hopefully, if their next kid is a boy, this will have planted a seed to avoid unnecessary surgery on him!
YAY!
