Hi I'm hoping someone can help. I have a 2week old and am starting to have some issues with one breast. It hurts soooo much. It is hard and i think i feel a lump. My breastes have always been very leaky and big squirters(I have two older daughters who were breast feed) and now the one breast doesnt. I can easily manually squirt my one breast the problem breast only has a very very small drip and I must use much more pressure. Did I mention it hurts??? So what should I do? thanks

It sounds like a blocked duct. Have a look at kellymom.

Hope it resolves soon. If it doesn't see your dr as if it develops into mastitis you may require antibiotics.

May also be a milk blister. I wouldn't have known about them except through MDC, and I had one that I popped just by squeezing my nipple. They're very hard to see, but when they burst, milk will shoot out and you will immediately begin to feel relief. You might want to have something handy to catch the milk! And for blocked ducts, warm compresses are useful, as well as nursing, nursing, nursing.

Sounds like a blocked/ plugged duct. I get them every couple of months, and what works for me every time is to take a LONG, HOT shower, then nurse. I normally do what is called dangle nursing, where I straddle the babe and lower my breast down into his mouth. This allows gravity to assist.

It's the dangle nursing that does it every time for me, after the shower. I also try side lying nursing and just holding hot wet washcloths over my breast, but this doesn't normally work. At two weeks PP I would have been clueless as to how to dangle nurse, but since you're an experienced breast feeder you may have more confidence I suppose.

By the way, it doesn't always work for me the first try. I often have to do it several times over the course of a day or two, before it fully resolves.

I would do what you need to to resolve it ASAP, particularly since your supply will likely drop a bit on the side with the blocked duct.

Good luck, and congratulations on your babe!!

I just had something like that when my babe was about 1.5 months old. It SUCKED- I felt like I had the flu as well! Someone in my local AP group gave me the PERFECT rememdy. 1 TB of raw apple cider vinegar every hour for 3-6 hours. It totally made it go away and I didn't even have to get on any nasty nasty antibiotic. I also went braless when I could (I put a disposable nursing pad that is sticky on one side in my shirt) and that seemed to relieve some of the pressure, along with lots of breast massage.
