The movie doesn't come out til March of next year, but I am ALREADY so excited to see it! I've seen the trailer so many times and I can't get enough of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and the whole trippy Tim Burton look. Anyone else excited??

me!
Seems truer to the original story, IMHO.

I think Burton definitely drew a lot from the original tale, as well as Through the Looking Glass and the Jabberwocky poem. So it should be an interesting version of all 3.

I'm definitely looking forward to it. Seems a perfect match for Tim Burton to do an Alice in Wonderland movie.

I am more excited for this movie than I have ever been for a movie before . We are going to have a Wonderland party beforehand, complete with a whimsy mad hatter cake and costumes, then head to the theater(and with a family my size we do not do regular theaters ever, this will be a first).
I love Tim Burton's work, add Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter and I won't miss it.

Curious to see it, but I hope Burton doesn't let this become as much of a Depp vehicle as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Don't get me wrong, I love Johnny Dep - he's immensely talented and Burton directs him well. But all the promo stuff I've seen has made it seem like the Mad Hatter, not Alice, is the main character. Take the poster which is a picture of mini-Alice, but the only name above the picture is "Johnny Depp"! I hope this is just the studio over-hyping the star, not representative of the actual film, otherwise it's going to be a VERY lopsided take. The Mad Hatter didn't even feature that majorly in the book!

I do love Helena's costume for the Queen of Hearts; I bet she'll be awesome. Tim Burton does know how to collect a good cast! Not that booking her would have been that difficult, obviously.

ooooooh i didnt know this. i just discovered teh poster at a theater and i am soooo dying to see it. i havent even seen the trailer.

i really want to watch it for the feast for the eye thing. i am not really looking at how true they stay to the book. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_i...and_(2010_film)

SMOKERING apparently its an adaptation so it really isnt 'alice in wonderland' but more like alice in wonderland again. it is NOT a retelling of the story.

i love that style of drama - is it pantomime. with exaggerated makeup? i cant wait for my feast of colour and good acting. in 3 D too!!!!

i believe stephen fry and christopher lee are providing voices too. wow!!!

ETA also looking forward to burtons twisted style of humor.

meemee: Here's the teaser trailer - http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810078365/trailer If feast for the eyes is what you're looking for, this is definitely it!

Smokering - the movie is pretty much Alice going back down the rabbit hole and re-acquainting herself with all those characters from the past. It's a pretty big cast list, and obviously Johnny Depp is the most well-known of them all but in the end, the story is about Alice and her going through this journey and transformation of herself so I wouldn't worry about the Madd Hatter completely taking over the story.

Ahhhh, OK. That explains why Alice is way too old. Hmm. Not sure what I think about that. Have I been under a rock, or did the filmmakers not go out of their way to advertise it? It certainly wasn't clear from the trailer I saw...

I Tim Burton. I enjoy all his stuff
...ok, maybe not so much Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...it was just eerie to me...maybe it was just the way Depp portrayed Wonka.

This is def on our MUST SEE list!!

Well, that trailer was only a teaser. I read in an interview somewhere where Tim Burton said that was pretty much the ONLY finished stuff in the movie when he premiered it at Comic-Con.

I think they focused on Depp at first because of his popularity and because he & Burton are known for their collaborations, just to kind of entice people. The movie doesn't come out until March, so I'm sure as more footage comes out, we'll get more of an idea of the new story and an introduction to all the characters. There are SO many interesting ones to meet, not to mention the other great actors in there that I find it hard to believe they would focus solely on Depp & the Mad Hatter!

From IMDb: 19-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror.

Thanks for posting that synoposis! So confirmation that the story DOES revolve around Alice

I read an interesting article w/ Tim Burton awhile ago where he talks about his interpretation of the story.

Quote:
With Alice, the imagery has been around for so long, it's so iconic. The problem with the books is that they're episodic and kind of random events that the movies have always suffered from the idea of a passive little girl going, "Oh, that's weird. Oh, I'm shrinking! Oh, I'm growing! I say!" So the goal was to try and take that imagery and be true to it but make it a new movie. So she's older, which puts in context. That's what's always been missing.

I think, with all these stories, whether it's Alice, or The Wizard of Oz, or any of these classic stories, they're always exploring what's in a person's inner psyche. You see Alice -- Mia Wasikowska -- is intelligent. She's got an internal life because all of these things are symbolic for working out whatever psychological problems you have. That whole question of fantasy versus reality -- most fantasy speaks to reality. It speaks to something real in somebody's life. That's why those old stories told around campfires were told because they connect to real emotion. It's not just a story about Goat Boy and Lizard Man...
The whole thing is here Interesting read, as all Tim Burton interviews tend to be! I'm really looking forward to actually seeing more trailers of the movie....

Just wanted to bump this thread and see if any of you have seen these gorgeous posters from the movie?

Love the last one, with all three posters put together - it looks like a painting and a, well, wonderful Wonderland!
