After a really hard week emotionally (dh is out of town, 9 year old & 5 year old are pushing all buttons) - I was "this close" to spanking today. I stewed about it, and finally I made a batch of pudding . When it was chilled and baby was napping, I summoned the older sisters for a Pow Wow on the kitchen floor. I started by saying "I love you" to each of them, then we dug in with 3 spoons. We talked about the emotions and anger of the last few days, and the end-result was that the kids should scream into pillows instead of saying hateful words, and Mama needs to use her "sweet voice" more often (their words).
They have since then done a little pillow-screaming, and I've tried not to get frustrated. Hoping that this is the first step to improving dialogue.
Next time, I need to end with a group hug ...
