shorties and longies

Okay, I'm STILL new to this, as baby hasn't arrived yet (I feel like I've been planning and questioning forever!), so forgive me if I sound ignorant about all this - I am.

I see adorable wool and fleece longies and shorties on Etsy and other sites. Are these worn in lieu of covers? I know a wool/fleece soaker can be worn in place of covers, but I am wondering if the cut for the shorties/longies doesn't lend itself to catching the leaks. Please advise! TIA

as far as leaks go, a lot of the time it is caught in the prefold or fitted diaper. you have to fasten the prefold with a soaker or pair of longies, you cant lay it in like you can in a wrap. when there's a leak, i just spot clean the wool where it got dirty instead of washing the whole thing, unless the leak was really bad. i am loving our wool right now.

I love our shorties and longies, too. I usually put my son in a snappied prefold, then put on his longies. Works like a charm! The only way I see it being a problem is if you don't have enough absorbancy for some reason. I tried a fitted the other day that is too small (but I could still get it on him!) and with the combo of too small and not enough absorbancy, the pee did run down his leg. I only knew because his socks were wet! Ick. Anyway, that's the only time that has happened.

Just wool shorts or pants that you use instead of a cover or soaker. Here's some lonhttp://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u.../Sept09162.jpggies I knitted for my babe. : )

Great - thanks for that information! I plan to use mostly prefolds with a few fitteds. I have Snappis and was pretty much planning to use them instead of trifolding.

Of course, now that I know this, I am going to have to really refrain from buying too many - there are some really cute ones out there! Our biggest motivator to cd was to save money, but it looks like I could obsess and spend just as much. Christina, I love those little green ones!

I don't use secure my prefold with my shorties, but my daughter is only four months. When she is crawling I could definitely see them sliding out of place. Right now I put the diaper on as if I were going to snap it then I pull the shorty over it.
