HBAC in IL?

Hello! This is my first posting here (or anywhere!)--exciting! I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first son was born via c-section in 2007. He was in the transverse (sideways) position and although I went through all of labor and 3 hours of pushing, he wouldn't budge. However, I firmly believe that if I had been in a more supportive setting with a supportive team, I could have birthed him naturally. As it was, once I arrived at the hospital I was weak and allowed myself to begin the cascade of interventions.

I do not want a repeat cesarean nor do I want a repeat hospital birth, but I'm having a hard time finding a midwife that will do an HBAC and is covered by insurance. We found a wonderful lay midwife who has done HBACs, but the cost is a bit prohibitive. I don't want cost to be the determining factor, though, but know that insurance will cover CNMs. I've also heard about doctors who attend home births. Has anyone done an HBAC in IL?? I live near the quad cities (western IL).

Also, I live 40 min from a hospital and I keep reading the "30 min. from decision to incision" thing--has anyone else delivered at home when they lived "far" away from a hospital? Please help!

Thank you!

I suggest posting on one of the local or semi-local ICAN groups. In the Chicago chapter we get this sort of question all the time, and I do not know who to contact farther west, but I know Du Page county has an ICAN chapter too. They may be able to help - I know they've helped people locate care providers as far west as Rockford, so they may know who to talk with in your area.
