Persistent cough?

My 8 yr old dd has had a cough for the past 2 months. It's a barking type of cough (almost like she's clearing her throat), it doesn't follow any pattern (time of day, etc) and she has no other symptoms. We've been to the dr and haven't received any answers. She's had a clear chest x-ray and she doesn't have any allergies. Any thoughts?

TIA

my first two thoughts would be yeast or reflux. Both are treatable and could change things quickly. That's what I'd start with, personally.

Yeast? I know of yeast infections but not like this - how do you mean?

I'm going to throw out whopping cough as a small possibility. I went through it with no symptoms other than the cought which lasted 2-3 months. It is a phlemy cough. Not everyone gets the whoop. The difference is mine was worse at night (which is common) and it was better when I drank a lot of water.

I also get that type of cough after certain foods (like reflux).

yeast can be anywhere in the body and has a particular affinity for the alimentary canal. A common symptom of yeast overgrowth is a persistent cough. I'm not saying it's what's going on...but it's a possibility.

So what would be the treatment for yeast?

Did she get tested for allergies? Food and environmental? My dd1 didn't show environmental allergies until she was 6yo, and her's was a 2-month cough.

Pertussis or asthma would be my guesses. Has she been tested for either?

She's been tested for asthma and doesn't have it and the dr doesn't think it's whooping cough. It's very frustrating as she simply has a cough - there was no initial illness and no other symptoms. No allergies, either. We're at a bit of a loss.
