diva cause uit?

anyone have experience with this?

I havent had a uti in over 3 years, but I used to get them a lot. This cycle I tried the diva for the first time. I am over 30 and a mom so I got the bigger size but i think it might be too big. I am pretty sure it was inserted right and I didnt really feel it when it was in the first day, but the second day a few hours after i inserted it I felt like i was pressing on my bladder. I got cramps which i never get and now a few days later I have a uti.

I will try again next cycle but Im wondering if anyone has experience with this?

yup-i have a long history of uti's and kidney infections (allergic to latex and glycerine and even silicone in lubricant seems to cause problems...so making sure nothing but water comes near my woman-parts seems to be key to prevention) that are under control now. i used to get them as often as once every couple of weeks...miserable experiences with antibiotics, secondary yeast infections, etc. i had been clear for a long time when i found a diva cup (had loved my keeper, but gave it up because it's natural rubber and latex turned out to be part of my problem, so i was thrilled to find a silicone one!)

it gave me a uti within 48 hours of trying it it started with cramps (which are not a normal period symptom for me, either, since my miscarriage) and turned into an early uti. and as an experienced keeper user and general women's health nerd, i am reasonably sure my technique had nothing to do with it (have not given birth nor carried a pregnancy past 2nd trimester so no reason to think that it's mis-sized, never had leaks with keeper or diva, etc.) anyway, from what i've read, keepers/diva cups press on your urethra the same way a diaphragm, cervical cap, or instead cup might, and can create a little pocket where urine collects, letting infection grow. sometimes women who have trouble completely emptying their bladders for other reasons get this type of "stagnant" uti, too. the recommendation is for them to stand and pee (in the shower, for example) so maybe you could try that?

personally, uti's for me aren't worth even risking fooling around with my diva cup again. getting one means a day-long life upheaval of trying to clear it with d-mannose, cranberry juice, nettles, and herbs...and then sometimes resorting to antibiotics anyway as the infection creeps into my kidneys so i just use cloth pads and homemade (knit) cotton tampons.

anyway, sorry for the rambling post-all this is to say: you're not crazy, i had the same experience. and let me know if you find a way around the urethral irritation of menstrual cups!

That happened me to me as well. I am a chronic UTI sufferer and very sensitive so sadly I can't use the diva cup. It pressed against my bladder and was very uncomfortable and gave me a UTI the first time I used it. I am also a Mom and bought the size 2. Maybe buying size 1 would have been better IDK. I am going back to cloth pads I think.
