Kids movies

My dd5 loves barbie movies. My ds3 does too by extension. Especially the 3 musketeers. Great msg for girls in it about kicking butt- she has been pretending musketeers a lot- gymnastics etc. I'm starting to worry, though, that all these "girl kick butt" movies have the opposite msg for little boys. Granted I haven' t seen this movie to completion but I just saw a scene where the two men in it are saying "no one will get past us!", annnndddd I'm PRETTY sure the barbies do. I'm thinking the men are probably the evil and/or stupid ones like in most "girl" (kid?) movies. What are your thoughts on this? Is it just barbie movies? Should I be concerned?

(I really don't want to debate the quality of barbie movies except on this point)

I don't really like kids movies that call attention to the differences in gender, and then pit one against the other.

I really like the Jane and the Dragon dvds. They show girls as strong, but not at the expense of the boys.

DD has decided she wants to be a musketeer when she grows up, and has decided that the karate studio down the street is "a special school for teaching you how to be a musketeer."

Anyway, there are non-imbecile male roles in the Barbie movies, so I don't think it's totally anti-male. But, the movies are intended for a girl audience, and for flipping the fairy-tale paradigm around.

I dunno. DD adores them.

Do you have the Diamond Castle? "Connected, connected, connected!"

Oh YES- we have the Diamond Castle. Thanks for getting that song stuck in my head again!! On the other note- I appreciate your feedback about the barbie movies. You'd think if I had a concern I would sit down and watch them all the way through but...I really, really don't want to . This is all my son wants to do since seeing the musketeers:
