I showed this forum to my mom and she about died, lol. She thinks we grossly over-think CDing. She used flats with "plastic pants" and washed them in Dreft for all us kids and never had a problem. The only rashes we got were from the 'sposies she'd put on us for outings. DREFT. And I am sitting here wringing my hands worried about detergents, lol.

That's funny! My mom used, I guess, preflats on me, I don't know what she washed them in but she liked the diapers themselves but hated the plastic pants. She has deeply impressed upon me the importance of going coverless around the house during the day, but she does think it's nice that diaper covers for nighttime and outings are better than plastic pants.

I think your mom has a good point when she talks about not worrying about it. I would love to not worry about it!

My mom used prefolds and plastic pants and can't understand the hooplah and excitement and confusion, either.

Count us in too. My Mom thinks it's very strange that I don't soak the dipes in a bleach solution between washes.

The problem with alot of detergents is they have perfumes and stuff that coats the diapers. But don't worry, if your really afraid to pick something up at the store you can get the detergents out now made for cloth diapers. You have several options. Tiny Bubbles, bumGenius,Thirsties, Allens. You will find what works for you and your baby.

That's hilarious. My mom is SO IMPRESSED with the cloth diaper technology. You'd think that fuzzi bunz were the coolest thing on earth. (actually, they kind of are) She keeps saying, oh these are SO NICE.

My MIL meanwhile things we are vaguely dirty for using them and won't even touch them.

I have been going nuts getting ready to CD DS! My mom has been learning about CDing today as I've been showing her different types of CDs I have bought. She used Gerber flats and waterproof pants on me & she cannot believe what we pay for CDs today! Every-single-time we go to any store and look at baby stuff she tries to get me to buy Gerber prefolds! She thinks the CDs of our generation are ridiculous and over the top!
