My poor breast

Is this mastitis or just a really bad clogged duct? it started to hurt last night and I didn't do anything about it(too tired), today It's really swollen, and pink on the underside. I have a fever of 100. I've had a clogged duct before but it never hurt this bad. At what point should I see a doctor?

Ooh, poor you!

With a low-grade fever it might just be a plugged duct, but if symptoms do not resolve despite self-help measures within 24 hours *or* if your symptoms worsen, then you should see a doctor and consider antibiotics.

Hope you're feeling better already!

hey, thanks for your help, Heba. I am feeling a lot better today. breast is still sore, but not near as swollen and I'm not feeling sick at all.
Thanks again for your concern.

When I had mastitis (twice!) I had a pretty high temp and very flu like symptoms (achy, tired, chills). When I had clogged ducts, I felt a little funky but mainly just a really sore boob.

I'm glad you are feeling better!

I just went through this the last 48 hours.
Same symptoms & pain! I feel you. Here is what I did:
Massage breast at sight of swollen, redness using the palm of your hand and working toward the nipple.
Use a cold (soaked in ice water) cotton rag over the site with some sort of wool soaker (I used a wool sock). Do this 3-4 times in the span of 10 minutes.
Immediately prior to nursing massage again and place a hot/warm rag over site to encourage circulation/flow.

My MIL suggest this, and it worked wonderfully. It never turned into full blow mastitis or a big problem. I also took 2-3 doses of Tylenol and the issue resolved in 24-36 hours.

GL!
