Are you sending out birth annoucements?

Just curious about this, I've never done any and I'm not sure where to get them done. I'd like to use an online service, but I don't know of any good ones. I'd like to have the freedom to do a traditional-type birth annoucement or something a little different.

I went through www.announcingababy.com for DS1's birth and his first birthday. The choices are numerous and the pictures turned out really nice....something to treasure! I also liked that they put the cards in the envelopes, so all I had to do was address them and put a stamp on. I'm definitely going with them again for this baby.

I want to do one of the photo announcements --
like this one
or maybe
this one

I've done photobooks through this site (photoworks) before, and uploading the pics and arranging things is really easy.

I've always loved the idea of birth announcements and made plenty of them online drooling.. but the reality is, I have no one to send them too.

I haven't gotten that far myself. Last time I think I used Shutterfly, but back then there were only like two companies that did that. That I knew of anyway.
Nature, you can send me a birth announcement. to you. I don't have very many to send them to myself, just my two brothers (actually maybe only one of them, since the other one's wife many years ago banned me from calling or writing to them) and a few of dh's relatives. I could easily do with less than 10.

I'm so lazy. I've never done it. Maybe if I can find an email one

There are also a lot of etsy shops that design and/or print birth announcements. I like this one.

Nope. None. I haven't for any of my kids.

Yep. The minimum purchase often makes me depressed before I even get to thinking about designing a card. "Oh crap.. I have to spend money on 20 or 30 of them?" No reason to buy that many!

Me either..
We send out mass email annoucements with links to our blog and pics.. its free, takes 5 min and people get to see the pic the day he is born and not 2 months later.

Never done it and this is baby #4...but that said as a doula and midwife I love getting them. I keep them all on a bulletin board. It helps keeps the memories fresh because although I would like to say that I remember every detail of the birth, name, and stats for every birth I've been too. I just don't. The announcements help. Plus they are so cute. But that said I won't do one because of money, inconvenience, and busyness. I don't do Christmas Cards either. I either talk to people who are important to me or than can keep track of me on Facebook.

We designed our own with DS, postcard style on our Mac. I can't remember if we hand addressed them last time, but I think we'll print out address labels from Address Book this time. For friends we'll send out a quick and easy email announcement first.

I have quite a few family members who don't use the computer a whole lot, I thought it would be nice to send out cards to them and some friends of mine who don't get online much. I also want one for the baby book. My mom made me feel bad when I got pregnant with my first son, she thought doing a baby shower or annoucements was "tacky" since I was an unwed mother, so I didn't do either. Now we are expecting our 3rd child, I'm so over it, and I hope she is too!

i use scrapblog (lots of the options are free) then save it as a jpeg and have them printed at a local shop.

haven't done this one's announcement but used it for callum and for our christmas cards for the past 2 years

i will send out announcements to close friends and family, i think they appreciated receiving one for callum , and i enjoyed making it so will do it again.

hey maybe we can share our announcements on here when we've got them done - i love looking at pics!!

Cool

Do you do a lot of online scrapbooking? It's something I've been wanting to get into for a while, if you have any tips/sites to share, I'm all ears!

I will probably be sending out announcements because I think my friend, who will be doing our newborn photos really soon, plans to design one for me. Last time, I really didn't think about it but I bet the grandparents, and especially the great-grandparents who can't just go online to see pictures, would have appreciated it. Oops! Do you think two years later is too late?
