Please explain how fleece covers work

I'm embarassed, but I just don't get it!! This is how I understand it: the fleece works to pull the moisture away from the dipe, out to the air. Is that right??
So, how can you wear clothes over the fleece covers? Won't the clothes get wet? Or if she's sleeping in just the dipe/fleece cover, won't the sheet get wet??

Someone please explain it to me!!
TIA

Because you're not putting the fleece against the baby's skin on the same side as you would for a liner, the fleece will act as a barrier instead of wicking moisture through. However, it's not completely waterproof even so, and I basically only use fleece during the daytime when it's too cold to go coverless.

There are also different kinds of fleece, different weights. Some covers are make from Windpro fleece, which is made to be waterproof/repellent. Moist inners/liners are made from microfleece, which is quite thin and wicks nicely.
