thoughts on flumist vaccine?

I am pregnant and due in December. I won't get the flu vax, mainly because of being pregnant and then breastfeeding. My husband usually gets it, just because he travels a lot for work and doesn't want to bring it home with him. This year he wants to consider getting the flumist, which is a live version. My OB says it's ok, but of course that's a completely medical minded viewpoint. What do you mom's think about this? Would it be risky for me and our unborn baby? Also, I have a 2 yr old, who has never had a flu vax - I'm on the fence this year for him. I'd prefer it to be the flumist if we do it, but again, not sure about it with me being pregnant. This year I am more scared about the flu (regular and H1N1) than usual - the disease scares me, as well as the vax. Thoughts?

Why not concentrate on boosting your immune systems rather than relying on a a flu shot or the mist to protect you. The shot and the mist are fairy ineffective in most adults and completely ineffective in kids under 2.
Flumist http://www.medimmune.com/pdf/products/flumist_pi.pdf has a hefty dose of MSG which is a excitotoxin and has been linked to a myriad of health conditions/problems. It also uses EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) in the manufacturing process. This agent has been found to be cytotoxic (toxic to the cells) and genotoxic
Quote:
(Genotoxicity describes a deleterious action on a cell's genetic material affecting its integrity. Genotoxic substances are known to be potentially mutagenic or carcinogenic, specifically those capable of causing genetic mutation and of contributing to the development of tumors. )
The flumist being live can shed.

The shot depending on the manufacterer also has a toxic brew of chemicals in it. Read all the packahge inserts and look up any ingredients you don't recognize learn about what they are.

Thanks, I am all about boosting the immune system. We do that with a variety of supplements - vit D, SA, elderberry, garlic, probiotics, etc. I am very well read on the pros/cons/ingredients of the flu vax, which is why I am on the fence and a little leary of both the disease and the vax....I have not made any decisions at this point for my son, who is almost 2.5 - however, my question was just to ask others' advice on whether or not the flumist given to a family member would be risky to a pregnant person like myself. I have been getting many different opinions.

I think you would be safe as long as he is washing his hands,no kissing and sneezing in his sleeve away from you.I would think your DH would be sneezy a few days after getting this.I know a few MDC members wont agree with me but I think your DH is smart for getting a flu shot and protecting you and your bebe.

If your 2 year old gets it I would do the single dose flu-shot and a lot of CLO & SA. Your child will need 2 doses of the flu shot or mist I am sure you knew that though.
