Trimming the . . . . . . . . TMI

Ok - here goes.

I'm a hairy momma, except I'm not that hairy since I'm blond and pale. I haven't shaved my armpits or my legs (nor nothin' else) since boy shorts swim suits came out in the 90s.

So, I'm approaching 40 and I'm pregnant, and the pubes are pretty long and bushy. While I don't want to shave them I think a trim might be in order. "Stuff" in getting stuck in them and I remember blood clots in there after the last baby.

I've never done this before. Is there anything I should know? Just trim with scissors? Will it itch if it's not shaved? I can still see down there, so I think now's the time.

Sorry about the graphic nature.... don't know who else to ask.

Cutting with scissors will be fine. Especially if you cut them long there won't be itching or any chance of nicking yourself.

One caveat, cut the hairs at an angle or something, so they aren't all the same length. All the same length and they'll feel thicker in your undies. Like how your head hear feels thicker when you cut it to one length? Same amount of hair, just feels like more.

You might use a comb to make sure scissors don't get anywhere near your skin if you're nervous.

And remember, worse comes to worse, in a few weeks it'll all be how it used to be.

This.
I know from recent experience how easy it is to take a chunk out of your skin if you're not careful...

Thanks guys. I'm glad I asked. The "internets" is SO useful.

Also (strawberry)blond, pale, and not much of a shaver here. I do trim here and there, but haven't shaved for a long time because I get the red rashy skin bumps and it just isn't worth it. Ugh. That said, would your DP help you get to the bottom of things? If necessary, that is.

Do it with a beard trimmer, not scissors. That sounds too scary. (and you must be amazing if you can reach down there to do it yourself anyways!)

I second the beard trimmer. I actually have a small cordless one that is for that area. I recommend combing the hair out and oiling the blades before doing it or sometimes they get tangled and hurt. I also do a slight trim with the scissors first.

I would try to find someone to help you with this 'project'. I trimmed mine by myself shortly before my second child was born. From looking at the pics of that child's birth, it looked like a lawnmower went crazy down there. I have dark hair so maybe it was more noticeable than it would be on you, but it did not look good.

I did not get a chance to trim before my third child was born and I really wish I had. I would have been less mess during all the postpartum bleeding. I'm not sure why I never got around to trimming. My child was born three days past my due date so it shouldn't have been a surprise. It's not like I went into labor early. LOL

I use clippers. I have a set I use to cut my DH's hair. I just put a guard on for what ever length I want and go for it. I don't worry about cutting myself that way and I can get it nice and short very easily if I want. I don't like the feeling of shaving, but I like to keep trimmed and this works really well for me. It's much faster and easier than scissors.

I got a trimmer for just this purpose. Its a wet/dry (got it at Walmart years ago and its fabulous) so I can do it in the shower and the hair goes down the drain so I don't even have to clean up the floor afterward! Its very easy to use.

I use a comb to trim also, it prevents me from cutting anything I shouldn't and also from getting it too short. I'm not pregnant though so I can't help with access challenges.

I will say that I stand over the toilet to do it, and then just wipe all the hair off the seat and flush - it doesn't really go all over the place or anything.

I keep things hairy but trimmed up down there. Small scissors and a beard trimmer work wonders!

electric hair clippers work well

Well, the thought of clippers scares the heck out of me! I personally use barber/haircutter scissors, and sit over the toilet. I cut pretty short, but have never cut myself yet.

I cannot imagine the idea of shaving myself completely bare. Itchy growing back I would imagine! BTW, I am a maternity nurse. I have seen alot of variation of things "down there" in my everyday job. I must say I do a double take when someone is shaved absolutely bald...it's like (to me) something just doesn't seem right, LOL!

Dang, I vote scissors and a comb, too. I recently went through this, my dd is two months old. I tried my husbands beard trimmer myself and somehow nicked a chunk of hairy skin out so gave up. Recruited my hub for help and the same thing happened. I ended up using scissors! I am very scared of a beard trimmer down there!

I just use sissors. I used to go bald or at least a narrow "landing strip" but when I was preggers with DS1 I decided that upkeep was going to be too much and I would rather let it go natural than show up at the hospital looking all scruffy. lol

I do like to leave it fairly long though because if I cut too short the hairs stick out through my undies! >.<
