Cleaning a wooden hairbrush

Mine's gross! But it doesn't seem like soaking it would be a good idea, since it's wood and the bed where the bristles are attached is some sort of fabric that's cushioned and therefore would absorb a lot of water.

Any ideas?

I use shampoo to clean mine; rinse well; and let air dry. No soaking. You can use a comb to clear out the old hair first.

I do that, but it's hard to get the bristles clean. (I have long hair, and if I don't wash it every day (which I try not to do) the bristles get gunky when I brush through it...) How to get rid of the gunk?

I'd try using a washcloth or rag to scrub the individual bristles clean while shampooing the brush.

you can use a comb between the bristles to clean it. soap and water won't hurt it though, just be sure to dry it (wood) right away and not keep it immersed in water or wet.

I clean mine first with a comb then immerse it in water and shampoo for an hour or two. Rinse well and let air dry on a clean towel.

I use an old toothbrush to scrub the bristles.
