There is a young mama at our church who's LO was born Labor Day weekend. Bf is hugely common in our area, especially with young single moms, and I was so proud of her. We talked about it through her entire pregnancy, and some after he was born. Several mama's at our church nursed, including a L&D nurse (3 kids for her) and she teaches bfing classes - so mama has tons of support, and her mom who she lives, is super supportive.
I talked to mom today, reminding her about our LLL meeting this week - J was not able to go last month. She said J was not nursing, and had stopped 3 weeks before. She said J's ped told her that baby was not gaining weight, was lactose intolerant, diapers didn't look like they should and to stop nursing. He put baby on soy formula which made him constipated. They are now having to give baby medication to help him poop. I was so sad for J & let mom know that I knew how hard J had worked and asked what the diapers looked like -she said yellow. I asked if they were seedy and runny, and she said yes. She said the Dr told J that it was supposed to be brown and more solid. I worked hard to contain my anger at the Dr and clearly mom was upet. She said that she always went with J to all her appts but didn't this time since she couldn't take more time off work. I knew she felt bad, even though it was not her fault. I'm so mad at that ped! I was considering moving to that group because one of the Dr's is highly recommended as a pro select/delayed vax and very pro bfing. Clearly that's not the Dr she saw that day. I'm so upset for her and for the baby. I just had to vent and get that out.
