My kid's do notice skin color of their dolls, but it's more of in a description type of thing than any sort of preference. All of them get played with the same way. What I have noticed interestingly, however, is that my 5 year old has started pairing doll clothes with certain dolls. Like, she's decided that her darker skinned Cabbage Patch kid wears certain outfits because they 'look better on her.' For example, she's told me before that I've put 'Beth's' (AA doll) clothes on 'Star' (Eastern European coloring) before and that it doesn't match so it looks bad. I think that's an interesting kind of awareness to have, because I wonder if she's trying to find the best colors for skin tone or something.
