for sale??

Hi crafty mamas!

I was just surfing and saw the Mamaponcho and about died when I saw the price tag. Are there any mamas out there that make them? For less then $100 even? LOL I'm really looking for something wool, either knit/crochet or sewn.

Then again, I don't know how much it would actually cost to make one plus time so maybe it's unrealistic to hope to find someone making them for less then $100 *shrug*

Thanks everyone!

That is a heckuva deal actually.

Theresa's pattern is $15. Big Box store yarn like Woolease Chunky is going to be about $50; want to use Malabrigo worsted? $70ish. So $65 to $85 for just yarn and pattern.

Yeah, I would say that you could make it yourself for $100. But, I don't think anyone would actually sell you one for that cheap. Maybe if you found a friend who would knit it up for you for the price of supplies. That would be your best bet.

It's a babywearing poncho.

I made one for myself using my own pattern and cheapo acrylic and it probably still cost me $30 and I expect probably like 30 hours of knitting, or something.

There's the El Nino poncho for $60 (30% wool. 70% acrylic), but no. A handknit, you're probably looking at paying $300 to pay the knitter fairly for her time, and anything less than that is a bonus.

I am making a poncho that I am modifying to be a babywearer poncho, and just using scraps of PF and some wool/silk blend that I have in my stash is taking a LOT of yarn. I would bet I will be using easily $60+ in yarn, adn won't be done knitting for at least 20 hours or so all together.

I went on the Mamaponcho site, and it states the wool is virgin "eco-friendly" wool. That runs like $15 atleast if you get just the Cascade. So for the price, it sounds like a great deal for something brand new.

I would say, if you are hesitant, look for used on ebay? Or, find a poncho in a thirft store and cut a slot for baby? I am sure there are tutorials or advice onine for reinforcing the knitting that way...

Well- you just need to channel this desire into learning to knit! That is how I learned- fell in love with handknit longies and couldn't afford to buy. I think it would be a great starting project
