Nice to see at a country fair. Mama friendly!

I was at the Fryeburg Fair this past weekend for those of you familiar. I used to live in town and have gone every year since I was a child. I hadn't been in nearly 5 though and this is the first time with my DH and of course DD who is only 4 months....

I was so very pleased to see that next to the children's animal barn and petting zoo there were the mens and womens bathrooms as well as a family bathroom and then a room that said the door. MAMAS and LOs ONLY...

So when DD was hungry I checked it out and I was so excited! It was a very comfortable heated room with rocking chairs and a long bench as well as 2 diaper changing stations and a hand washing area. It was wonderful! I was so excited that the fair was so accomodating to nursing moms and just any mother who needed a break with her LO from the craziness of the fair.

I thoroughly enjoyed nursing DD and chatting with the 3 other mothers in there about how wonderful it was to go to a place and actually feel welcomed to feed LOs and have a nice clean warm place to change a diaper if needed.

Just wanted to share how happy I was, DH thought it was hilarious that that room was the thing I talked about most for the next day and half! Thank you Fryeburg Fair for making my trip even more enjoyable!

it's really nice to go out somewhere and see that people have taken the time to create something so accommodating for us. i would be just as excited, i love going to churches and seeing all the different mother's rooms and how much effort they put into making things a little bit easier for us.

i'm always happy to see that our malls and medical centers and such have nursing rooms for mamas and babies but a fair? that's great!!

That's awesome! Our state fair had a great 'rest area' with toys, changing tables, benches, and a little screened off area with comfy seats for nursing moms. Of course I just nursed my newborn DS in the main room but it was nice to be able to sit and take some time out for a few minutes!

Wow. That's awesome. We're about to have our big state fair next week. They've never had anything remotely like that before, but I'll be looking this time. If I were you, I'd write a letter to the editor or the planning committee or something- just to let them know how very pleased you were. Hopefully, if it's encouraged, that kind of thing will catch on.

I already drafted a brief letter to the town regarding the fair and how wonderful it was to see such a setup. I also noticed another room similar to that on the other side of the fair grounds! Now if we could just get more permanent establishments to be so good!

During the Indiana State Fair, the local milk bank has "Lactation Stations" set up in various locations - four this year, I think. One is in a big tent with fans and rocking chairs, one is inside the healt/wellness pavillion, one was actually inside a donated RV (A/C is important in Indiana in August!), and one more I didn't see. They're always there to offer a comfy seat and an ice cold bottle of water. I love it!
