With my first dd, and with this one, I have had oversupply & fast letdown.
With block nursing it is manageable, and it's also improving even more with time (dd is 2 months today
)
Here's what usually happens. I let her nurse for a couple of minutes, which involves her unlatching and relatching a few times, to catch a break from the flow. Then she'll get a little fussy, I'll stand her up, let her burp, and look for signs she is still hungry. If she is still hungry (which she always is after the first burp break, and usually the second), then I will put her back on. I know she gets ample milk in a short nursing session; when I pump one side I get 2 oz in 2 minutes, then another 2 oz takes maybe twice as long.
The issue I am having, is that she will STILL latch on, even if she is NOT hungry anymore. She wants to comfort nurse, I think. But when she is not hungry, she does something odd when first latching, which makes her gag and usually spit up. And if that doesn't happen, then when she triggers another letdown, she will spit up then. And she spits up EVERYTHING. Makes me scared to nurse her in public
So I keep putting her to breast as long as she is obviously hungry. But I think I am generally stopping before she is full. And so 45 mins later (sometimes 15 mins later) we are nursing again.
My older DD was a snacker, too. Even at a year or older, given a choice, she would prefer to nurse for a minute or two a few times per hour. I was hoping to avoid that this time, but maybe I can't?
