My baby has a cold :(

My 5 week old dd has a cough and a stuffy nose. No fever, and we are on day 3 of this. SO any advice on what to do to make her all better asap, I hate seeing her under the weather!
We've been doing saline sprays up her nose, standing in the steamed up bathroom, using a humidifier and trying to suck out stuff with that bulb thingy, but I rarely get anything.
Her cough seems to be more of a chocking back of the throat, and not so much in her chest.
TIA

so sorry momma - it's awful watching them unable to sneeze/cough out their congestion! Mine is just getting over it as well - we did all the same things. Saline drops and aspirator -- which we're still having to use every now and again. The aspirator really is the best thing in the world. And vaporizer with Mentholatum. We went to the pedi after 8 days who said colds in babies range 10-14 days - and gave me a patronizing look of "worried first time mother". Thanks. Best of luck on her speedy recovery!

Ugh! so sorry. Charlotte had a cold at only 1 week old. I felt terrible for her. She was too tiny to use just about anything but the aspirator and steam. She seemed to kick it pretty quickly though, and I just keep trying to remember that it's her first notch in her immune system belt, yk?

Hang in there!

So sorry your lo is under the weather. It sounds like you are doing everything you can be doing for her. My lo (almost 6 weeks now) is working through excess mucus and a cough as well. Are you breastfeeding? If so, I would double up on vitamin C, probiotics and immune boosting foods, as well as cut back on your sugar intake and dairy products.

Hope that helps some.

We had it as well- it's lingers in terms of nasal congestion for a bit over a week now. Sounds like you're doing everything you can to kick it though- hope everyone is feelign better soon! Also remember that nursing will be a huge help, just use the aspirator as necessary so she can breathe.

Thank you
Yup, I am breastfeeding, and I've been taking lots of vit c, hopefully this doesn't stick around too much longer!
She is sleeping really well, thankfully, it would be a lot harder if she wasn't sleeping.. of course being a paranoid crazy person, sometimes I worry she is sleeping too much! (she's happy and alert when she is awake, but she doesn't stay awake long).

Drip some breastmilk in her nose! Sounds crazy, but breastmilk has natural antibacterial properties, as well as anti-inflammatory, so it might help her congestion!!!

Maybe add some garlic to your diet? I know that it's good for YOUR immune system, I'm not sure if it passes to baby or not...but it can't hurt.

Poor baby!!

Ditto the breastmilk up the nose! I find it bothers Rowan less than the saline did. She's only been congested so far, we've been lucky (*touch wood*), so hopefully it doesn't get any worse. Oh, and we do a tiny bit of baby Vicks, but only on her sleeper, not on her skin. That seems to help a little, plus I love the lavender-y smell
Good luck!

more than likely it's not a cold....and I think the breastmilk up the nose is going to make it worse. There is a point at about 2-8 weeks where babies get stuffy noses. It's not because of a cold but because the have increased their milk intake...and sometimes spitting up more. The nose naturally creates more mucas to protect the lining of the nose and throat after a baby has spit up.
There are posts like these that pop up all the time....
