trazadone questions

Thread Starter
I just started taking 50 mg at night for sleep. after years of insomnia, I finally feel like I am getting good sleep.

I had expressed to my pdoc how effexor was terrible for me in the past and SOOO hard to come off of. From what I am reading, it sounds like trazadone is very similar. Has anyone come off of it for awhile---how did it feel?

Also, weight gain. I gained 40 lbs in 6 months on effexor. It took me 2 years to lose it. Does trazadone make you gain weight?

I took a really small dose of trazodone for anxiety/depression that was giving me insomnia. I can't remember the dose, but the pills were tiny--maybe 10 mg? I took it for 3-4 months at a time, two different times. Coming off it was not that hard--I tapered a little, maybe for a week, and I don't recall any side effects. I also didn't have weight gain. All this might be due to the low dose? Who knows.

I took Effexor for a few months and while it was great for my mental health, it was difficult to stop. I didn't notice weight gain with it.

I hope you're sleeping better and feeling better.

I was on trazadone for awhile (slept the best I ever have in my life - it was WONDERFUL) but I came off of it specifically because of the weight gain issues. At the time I was VERY actively trying to lose weight with no success. The doctor figured I had just managed to avoid the weight gain trazadone is known for. As soon as I came off I started to lose weight.

I have an rx for up to 150 mg per night. Whether I take it - and how much varies - and I don't have any problems even when I take 150 for a couple of weeks stopping cold turkey.
