My best friend is about to have a baby in a few weeks. She is going to slightly delay vaccines and selectivly vax (all much to my dismay
). She is considering getting herself a DTAP when in the hospital. She is planning on nursing her dd. She works in a Ped's office full time as a receptionist and is going to go back to work after her maternity leave. I am trying to talk her out of getting vaxed but I have nothing to back myself up. We don't do vaccines at all for any of us so I have never looked into the situation of nursing mothers getting vaccines.
I would really appreciate any info I could pass on to her to help her make an informed decision.
Thanks,
Amy

for this shot! I have been waivering on this one for years and for us, the scales finally tipped so I was more uncomfortable not having it than. I was so worried my dh or I would catch it and give it to him. It was a longstanding fear so we just did it. I know it's not nearly 100% effective and all the stuff surrounding it, but I am one of the minorities here that believe it's something I don't want to go through. So yes, I do think it's a sell for new moms at the hospitals but I also think it's important. Yes, the chances of mortality from the disease lower with age, but it's the hospitalization, long lasting effect on the lungs, the antibiotics you could have to be on for even another infection relating to it and that sent me in. I struggled with this decision but now am very happy with a little more, yes I know not complete coverage by any means, but some level of more assurance.
