I'm getting frustrated with my pocket dipes

I started out using the BG OS and then I added some Rump-a-rooz. They all stink right now, no matter what I do. I tried boiling the inserts, Oxyclean, dawn, running tons of extra rinse cycles. It just seems like too much work to me. I just want the stupid things to not stink anymore.
I just bought some prefolds and they don't stink, it's wonderful. I have some hemp ones that I have used a ton of times and they don't stink either. Maybe I should just sell my stash and buy more pf's

Yeah, natural fiber is so much easier to care for than synthetic fiber. We use gro baby and I love it!

Bg's need 1/4cup of bleach in the wash once a month. I could always tell when the month was over because the stink was back. Once a friend asked if I smelled a skunk. No, DS had just peed. Time for bleach.
Now on my second child, the glamour of pockets is wearing off and I love prefolds again. I have gone full circle.

Why not order more prefolds and put the pockets away until you're less burned out on them? (Bleach might work, too.)

We had the same problem with pockets, but no stink with prefolds or fitteds. We have very hard water here, and someone told me to try Calgon in the wash. Calgon made my prefolds, pockets, and fitteds extremely soft and absorbent and odor free!

Vinegar and using less detergent has been my saving grace. But if you want to sell your Rumparooz, I'm your girl.

If you have laundry problems, prefolds will eventually start stinking, too. The only positive part of prefolds is that when they start to stink, you can just buy new b/c they are so cheap. We have all the ingredients for stink issues (hard well water, only pockets, toddler poop) and no stink, so it is possible to use pockets successfully.

Here are some ideas to stop the stink:

1. Rewash all the diapers with 1 tablespoon bleach.
2. Then turn them on hot with no detergent or anything - do bubbles form in the water? Then you need to strip them - keep washing them on hot with no detergent. Cold rinses will not work as well as hot washes.
3. Is your water hard? (In the shower, does your shampoo and soap rinse really easily, leaving almost a squeaky feeling? Then it is hard. Or does it feel slippery and slimy, like you can never rinse it? It is soft.) If it is hard, try using some Calgon water softener in every hot wash. This goes a long way to solving stink in hard water areas.
4. Try adding 1/2 cup white vinegar to every cold pre-wash.

You can either choose to continue to use your water and energy resources to re-wash and go through that frustrating cycle or you can choose to use natural fibers up against baby and resolve your personal energy costs and frustrations.

Years ago when I decided upon what types of diapers I wanted to continue to manufacturer. I settled in on natural fibers for a reason...........................and while it was not the popular and rewarding choice then, I am so happy that I choose natural now. My personal opinion ---- Seeing many issues continue to crop up with the synthetics.

I hope that you find the right fit for your needs.

I'm guessing your talking about microfiber inserts??? They do really seem to hold on to the smell more than other fibers. If that is the case, and it isn't the actually pocket part that smells, you could just stuff the pockets with your prefolds instead. Or you can buy hemp inserts.
