No. Don't limit ds, either. I use the computer more when I'm tired and low on energy (chronic fatigue syndrome). I get bored of it, eventually. But it is nice because I can write an email, stopping whenever ds wants attention, and then finish. I could never have a conversation on the phone when he was younger. I love that it is all on my own time and schedule.

I limit my computer time now that I limit DDs. I also limit my own tv viewing because I limit hers. I am more careful about balancing my meals because I make sure hers are balanced.

Kids learn more from what we do than from what we say.

We limit it for my son to close to zero, but he's 4. It's not hard: We just open the Legos loudly.

But what I really wanted to say in this thread is that I work online and I am online a lot. However, at home, my laptop keyboard broke and instead of replacing it I plugged it into a dock and use a regular keyboard at a desk, in a very inconvenient spot in our home. My usage of it other than at night after my son is in bed dropped a fair amount - not completely, but a lot. It was such a simple move.

I try to limit my screen time when DS is awake, partly because I am at work during the day so I want to really concentrate on him when I am home, and partly because he isn't really interested in watching TV and I want to keep it that way. It's harder with DH because he always wants the TV on, even as background noise. He always interacts and plays with DS, but sometimes it would be nice to have some quiet in the house!

At home, I absolutely limit my computer time and TV time. I never watch TV while the kids are awake with the exception of Survivor, which we all watch together as the kids like the challenges. And then we have our own challenges in the basement afterwards! That equates to 40 minutes of TV a week that I watch when they are awake. Always on DVR so all commercials are skipped.

I do watch an occasional Oprah after they are in bed, but even that is rare - maybe 1-2x a week.

Regarding the computer, I usually only use it after they are in bed. I sometimes use it when they are in the bath (they are in there for over an hour) and if they have friends over.

But work is a totally different story. I am on the computer all day.

A couple of times I got really into a game and I wanted to finish it so I would play while they were awake. I noticed my mood totally changed and I was really grouchy. It was a great conversation starter with my kids about the harms of spending too much time on the computer.

Ds doesn't use the computer so no problem there. I try to limit my usage and, realistically, I don't have much time to be on the computer anyway. I use it the most on my weekend (in the AM or during ds's afternoon nap) or at night once ds has gone to bed. Baby daddy is another story completely. He is always on the computer or always watching TV...not even going to get into that

Recreationally, yes, I do. For my part-time job, I have to use the computer exclusively. And I limit my own TV time, too. We all do, actually. Sometimes we'll go a week without watching TV. Rarely will I go a week without doing something fun on the computer. Fun = my forums. I don't play games on the computer.

I don't limit my computer time, although I probably ought to. I try and keep the computer closed when the LO is awake, largely because she wants to rip the screen off my laptop when it is open.
