What to do with some old, old flats?

My mother dug out some of the nappies she used with me and my brother (so... um.. 30-ish years ago...). Baby #2 is on its way in February and I have some new birdseye flats - so she thought maybe I could use these.

3 muslins, and 5 or so terry flats.

The muslins are in good shape - anyone use muslins inside their flats? Why? Do they protect the actual flats? Just add a bit more absorbency? They're sooo soft, but I wonder what I'll actually use them for - they're too thin to use by themselves. I can probably lay them in a cover folded up... maybe..

The terry flats are too threadbare to actually use as diapers, except maybe on a very newborn baby where they're folded up small. I'm trying to think what else I could use them for, other than rags. I wondered about cutting them into baby washcloths - if I get the urge to remember how to use a sewing machine... anyone have any more brilliant ideas? Perhaps just used as burp cloths too...

Thanks for any suggestions!

As doublers? I use some really soft but very small prefolds as doublers at night inside my regular prefolds.

To lay under baby during naked time.

To lay under yourself/baby at night to catch milk drips.

I would use them as pocket stuffing, or doublers for nighttime. Or, layer 3 or so flats, and fold them all together.

Those threadbare ones are great for having by your breastfeeding spot for wiping up milk/spit up etc.....
also great doublers

How about making a ton of wipes from them?
