DH and I have recently decided that it would be a good idea for me to diversify (as I'm qualified in the same area as he is) and continue to stay at home with DD while exploring alternative routes of employment.

I have just enrolled on a proofreading course and am looking forward to that, but it will take some time to complete the course and then some more time to build up a portfolio of expertise, make contacts etc.

I've been considering writing content as a means to bring in a little extra money while also working on the proofreading course. I've always liked writing and working with words, and I think the two are quite compatible pursuits

But I'm not sure where to start with the content writing. I've found the website associatedcontent.com so far. Has anyone got any experience with them? Does it make a difference that I'm in the UK not the US? Are there any other similar websites? Is there anywhere I could start looking locally for similar opportunities? E.g. do magazines take offerings from otherwise unknown writers? And what about copyright? I have to admit to knowing next to nothing about copyright laws - can I give permission for a website to publish my article while retaining ownership of it? Can I publish an article with more than one website, magazine etc. ?

Any other advice or tips you could give me to get me started would be really appreciated. I'm getting quite excited about this - being able to work with words for a living!! (Or partial living at least! ) TIA
