Meningitis vaccines

Thread Starter
Hi, my dh is hoping to go to Saudi and this requires a compulsory vaccination with four strains of meningitis. I'm worried about the knock on effect to us (he's more blase about what he puts in his body generally) and any future pregnancies. I'm possibly taking this to the extreme, but is it likely a live vaccine (I can't imagine it can be, but still...) and how long will the stuff lurk around etc etc.....he's 100% supportive about not vaxing our little one's btw, so we've never had to research quality of vaccines/ previous testing/ 'safety' records etc. I don't know where to start.....

Are you planning on going there or living there?

Meningitis is recommended, but not required for entry.

Visitors to Saudi Arabia should generally obtain a meningitis vaccination prior to arrival. A medical report or physical examination is required to obtain work and residence permits.

Meningococcal vaccines are not live so that's one less thing for you to worry about if he does choose to get the vaccine. And evidence of vaccination is actually a requirement for some Saudi visas, for example:
