Ds is now almost five months, he is HN and has never slept well. We never co-slept because I just couldnt really figure out the logistics and when I did take him into bed it didnt seem to help either one of us get more sleep.
Now however he does seem to sleep better with me, if I lay him on top of me for a nap I can sometimes get him to sleep for an hour!! Which is a long time for him!
I have a twin bed in his room and that is where I nurse him the 3-7 times he gets up at night, sometimes we fall asleep there but I worry about him falling off the bed or into the crack, plus then I am not near DP. He will fall asleep nursing but as soon as I pick him up he wakes, then I have to rock him over his crib until he falls asleep, then when I go to put him down he wakes again and I have to pat his back until he sleeps, usually having to pick him up and repeat a few times. Lately though I have to repeat many times, he just seems like he wants to be with me.
So my question is this how exactly do you safely co-sleep? DP doesnt really want to since he is a very deep sleeper and is scared of smothering ds and also of the blankets smothering him. I am a very light sleeper and I have to have blankets up to my neck and be very comfortable to fall asleep. Ds starts out the night in his crib pretty well so we would start that way but I would like to take him into bed after his first waking. Suggestions please!
