for the holidays this year i want to get my dd1 (6yo) her first set of knitting needles. i'd prefer wood...anyone have any suggestions on what type/where/etc.? thanks so much in advance!
My 8 yo DD started with bamboo needles, then I bought her a pair of rubbery-plastic ones (with bunnies on the top from Michaels, made for kids) and now she prefers metal ones like I use.
ETA: the bamboo ones were also from Michaels. Link here.
I think bamboo, wood, or plastic would all be good because they are not too slippery. I would recommend short needles, 16" or less, because they are easier for short arms and small hands to handle. I would also go with a mid-size, like 4mm or 5mm, with worsted weight wool. My 6 year old is just starting to knit without too much frustration.
