need - top down sweater for two yr old

I have dk superwash for miles and would like to knit ds a striped sweater. After having done a few top down sweaters, I'm having a hard time thinking of knitting one in pieces! I've looked all over rav and just not finding what I'm looking for. He wears 24 months - 2T. Just a basic, hum drum sweater. Any links to free patterns you know of?

eta - I have a knitting pure and simple cardi pattern that I like - can I just use this and join in the round? Would I do that after the increases and eliminate the button band?

Yes, you can do the KP&S pattern. Rather than just eliminating the button band, you could cast on the same number of sts for the front as for the back section and just do increases until it fits. Simple!

I've never tried this pattern, but I've done a similar one for socks and it works great.
